Fancy a round?

Wealdstone’s first ever golf day (well first one in my memory) will take place on Friday 26 September at Stockley Park Golf Club.  Cost will be £50 per person to include full English breakfast, 18 holes of golf and a meal afterwards.  Currently timescales are for a 10:30 breakfast call with tee offs starting at 11:30.

This is a fundraiser for the Club and we are hoping to attract local businesses to the event, but we will be delighted to welcome as many supporters as possible who are able to play.  We are also hoping to have a number of surprise ‘guests’ including former Wealdstone heroes.  More details of that when  we have them.

For more information please see Dennis Byatt.

Open day this Sunday

If you are free this Sunday (7 September) between 12-3 do come down to Grosvenor Vale where we are holding an open day.

Primarily aimed our neighbours and other local residents we are opening up the social club and will be looking forward to talking to local people to introduce the club to them and hopefully entice them to a game.

The Wealdstone Juniors are also holding a similar event so the whole club will be on show.  Lets hope the weather is favourable and we get a good turnout.  Anyone who is free and wants to help out – we would be delighted to see you.

Not forgetting the reserves

Good to see Phil Ralston, Tony Jones and John Moran tonight.  What a start from the reserves, played 6 won 6 coming from 2 down at half time to beat Chalfont 3-2 – without Callum Martin and Darren Locke who were with the first team last night.

Actually I started writing a blog entry about the reserves last night, then spoke to Fingers at half time, heard we were losing 2 nil so stopped writing it.  Such little faith!

The new management team have done a great job so far not only with the results but also in getting two players through from the reserves into the first team squad so quickly.

If you like to look at a league table with Wealdstone 8 points clear then click here and then click on the tables option under fixtures.  We play at 4th place Burgess Hill away on Saturday so that will be tough, but good luck to the boys and lets hope the run continues.

Off and running

It feels good doesn’t it.

All the frustrations of the first few weeks blown away by today’s excellent second half effort.  Four quality goals, a great all round team performance with several star performances.  Roll on Saturday – but Ramsgate won’t be easy and we will need to battle just as hard, and then some.

Great to see Callum Martin finally start a first team game.  He can only get better and better.  He has had so much bad luck with injuries – he has hardly played in three years and I reckon it could be the first time both Martin brothers have started in the first team. Hopefully the first time of many.

The crowd of 371 was reasonable.  To be honest we are probably missing a few off due to the children coming in with passes – we must start getting an accurate picture of how many kids are coming in.  We need to build on this, I’d like to see regular 400 plus crowds and if the football remains this good then hopefully it will grow further.

I’ve read on some opposing team message boards that we have looked poor and likely candidates for relegation.  I disagree emphatically with that view.  Our team is getting better and better, the talent we have is very exciting and whilst it is still a very young team if they can continue to give such mature performances then we will do well.
